About the New 2015 Guard Certification Requirements

Get your certification before this October and be prepared for upcoming changes!

There is currently legislation up for vote in the Connecticut State legislature that will enhance existing law from 2008 to make certification requirements for security officers much stricter than they are today. We believe that this legislation will pass; we welcome the new regulations, since they will add critical training requirements.

What this means in practical terms is that security guards – or security officers, which is our preferred term – will see a great improvement in terms of their professionalism, training and readiness. These new guidelines will turn security from a job into a licensed profession.

This profession is increasingly more lucrative:

  • Security officer pay has improved approximately 20% in the last 10 years
  • 48 out of 50 states have certified training
  • 47 of them have higher standards than CT, the new law brings us into line with national standards

The new certification is a necessary step to make sure Connecticut’s private security is in reliable hands.

LJB Security Training

LJB Security Training

In 2004 Connecticut passed a law mandating the training & licensing of Uniformed Security Officers.

The Act also requires that all private security training must be approved and that all private security trainers be certified by The Department
of Emergency Services & Public Protection.

The lesson plan provided by LJB Security Training is approved by The Dept of Emergency Services & Public Protection who is also responsible for the licensing and registration of all security officers and private security Instructors.
